EPL goal of the week from Alex of Chelsea

This is an absolute rocket from Alex. A long range strike that had eyes of its own as it swerves around the goalie who watches helplessly as the hits the back of the net. Its this type of goal that makes the EPL special.

MLS Goals of the Week - final week

The final goal is a classic. The goalie is sheep herding and watches the shot from midfield sail over his head into the net.

Greg Ryan Fired as US National Team Coach

From ESPNsoccernet by Steve Davis

Greg Ryan had always seemed curiously bulletproof, generally dodging the larger munitions in terms of media scrutiny. His highly favored team looked plodding in the Women's World Cup, but Ryan seemed to get a pass as all heads swiveled toward the Hope Solo fiasco.

Ryan's deal ends on Dec. 31, 2007. His last match was Sunday, a disappointing 1-1 draw with a nation (Mexico) that has mostly been a punching bag for the powerful U.S. women's program.

"It's clear that a number of [women's] teams around the world are playing at a much higher level than they had been previously," Gulati said.

This had to happen after Ryan made one of the worst coaching moves in the history of the WC. He wrecked the chemistry of team and flushed the US hopes for a title down the drain. I'm sure Hope Solo had a quiet smile when this news was released ... it validated some of her comments about her former coach.

MLS Goals of the week

Highlights from week 27 of the MLS. The goal by Chivas against RSL is the best one this week. It is an absolute rocket from 25 plus yards. What a hit that fools the goalie. It reinforces the idea to shoot when it is available and hit it as hard as you can at the goal to make the GK save it.

Hope Solo Jersey #8 in sales

Yahoo news - the current top 20 jersey sales for all sports has Beckham #1 and two other soccer stars in the top 20, but you won't find them dribbling alongside Beckham. Outspoken U.S. Women's team goalie Hope Solo came in at #8 and retired superstar Mia Hamm ranked #20 both scored with jersey searchers this week.

Clearly, Hope's comment rang true with female soccer fans.
